ISCP's Open Weekends are organized
twice a year to give the public, art enthusiasts, and art
professionals access to ISCP's artists and curators in
residence from around the world. Free to the public, the Open
Weekend presents recent artworks and projects by artists and
curators from twenty countries working in the program's 26
studios. The current residents represent a wide range of
conceptual interests and aesthetic concerns, covering the
mediums of painting, sculpture, drawing, installation,
performance, video, ?lm, new media, and architecture.
Founded
in 1994, ISCP has hosted more than 500 artists and curators
whose participation at ISCP has facilitated substantial career
growth, while contributing to the diversity of New York City's
international arts community. ISCP's approach to programming
is focused on connecting its artists and curators with local
institutions and independent practitioners, while introducing
local audiences to contemporary art practice from all over the
world. The interaction between artists, curators, and critics
creates opportunities supporting every stage of artistic
development - intellectual exchange, critical feedback,
invitations to participate in exhibitions, and gallery
representation, to name a few - with the ultimate goal of
promoting awareness of the diversity of global artistic
expression.
Of
special note, this Open Weekend may be the last in our current
space at 323 West 39th Street. We recently secured our own
nonpro?t status, and are making plans to relocate ISCP to a
new space where we can expand our programs to offer more
opportunities to the artists and curators whose experiences
are central to the organization's mission. Please join us on
Friday, May 4 from 7pm to 9pm for a reception to celebrate the
Open Weekend and toast ISCP's future in a new location.
Founding Director, Dennis Elliott and Program Director, Sara
Reisman welcome you to join the ISCP participants in their
studios on May 4, 5, 6, and 7, 2007.
