Kang’s Rebirth strikes a chord with Garment District NYC as recycled-elevator-cable-turned sculptures set to be unveiled in May

Garment District NYC has announced that Taiwanese master-sculptor Kang Muxiang’s Rebirth will be the upcoming public art installation in Midtown’s Garment District Plazas.

Kang’s monumental embryonic sculptures, created using recycled elevator cables from Taipei 101, formerly the world’s tallest building (2004-10), will be unveiled on Broadway Thursday, May 17.

“The Alliance is pleased to be working with Kang to present seven large scale works from the Rebirth series on three plazas,” said Mr. Gerald Scupp, Vice President of the Garment District Alliance (GDA). “The installation will not only be an aesthetic enhancement, but it will also provide a powerful artistic and environmental message to the many New Yorkers and visitors from around the world who will view these tremendous sculptures,” he added.

To be displayed from mid-May through September 15, 2018, this exhibition is part of the GDA’s Art on the Plazas program, and is produced in cooperation with the New York City Department of Transportation’s Arterventions Program.
